about the fielding position: 'silly point':

The Silly Point is a fielding position in cricket.

Found square of the wicket on the off-side, it's an important position for stopping forceful shots off the back foot like the square cut.

Most commonly used when a spin bowler is in action to snap up any bat-pad chances, it involves standing just a couple of yards from the batsman, square of the wicket on the off-side.

This is a position where you'll usually find the best fielder in the team. They're often jumping around trying to protect themselves when the batsman plays a big shot on the off-side.

As the name suggests, is not a great place to field.

about a website: The "Silly Point"

The "Silly Point" was started to be a cricket website with a difference.

With the closure of the old BBC TMS forums, members dispersed to joined many new boards that mushroomed; polarised by nationality religion and race, intolerant to anyone different. The powder kegs of inter-race, inter-nation and inter-religion animosities. No one could avoid the filth to have a decent cricket conversation.

The "Silly Point" was initially a blogspage but I decided to create a forum that would do away with the bigotry, a forum to be a multination meeting point; free of abuse and WUMming.

It was all too good to last.

It fell victim to two trusted administrators; a Yenkayya (aka Dr Alban, LBW) and Grandbharata. The greedy forumgrabbers, failing to takeover, have gone on to create/own forums of their own. To recruit members, they successfully ran a fabricated negative campaign to destroy this forum, and everything good that it stood for.

But The "silly points" blogspage has gone from strength to strength. The website too is recognised for it quality and presentation. The forum is now a bulletin board, so that it never ever falls victim to any such unscrupulous minds.

This is The "Silly Point" a position only for the braves.
A survivor, it will never give up easily.
